Flapjack recipes
I have been trying over the last few years to make a flapjack that packs a punch with calories and is good to eat. The following recipe gives 370gm of flapjack at 530 calories/100g. The ingredients are not cheap and can be ordered from BonPom. If you do not bake them long enough then they can feel a bit sludgy in the mouth. I prefer them crunchy with a bite. If you have a better recipe then please send it in.
60g Rolled oats
40g Chia seeds
60g Banana powder
30g Ground almonds
40g Cacao nibs
70g Coco butter
40g Golden syrup
30g Sugar
A friend of mine who was the female army triathlete champion sent me her secret flapjack recipe:
CAROLINE’S ENERGY FLAPJACK:
3 1/2 Cups Rolled Oats
1 1/2 Cups dried milk
2 table spoons cinnamon
1 cup honey (or syrup – honey better for you though!)
10 small scoops protein powder (I use vanilla – or just add more milk powder)
2 Large egg whites and one whole egg (or just 2 complete)
1 1/4 Cup fruit juice (I use cranberry)
2 Cups raisins/chopped fruit/nuts/seeds (anything you fancy)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Line a tray with waxed paper and preheat oven to 200. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Spread onto the tray and cook for 15 mins or until brown. Cool well before turning out. Keeps for up to 2 weeks in air tight container.
